WRITERS' LODGE 26: A Final Word (for now) on Self-Promotion
Hi friends!
(First, some housekeeping. The other day I found two of my own newsletters in my spam folder, so it may well be that some of them are going to yours, too. Do check, and add substack to your list of safe senders if necessary. One of the mailouts in question was alerting you to the current sale I’m running, so if you’re tempted to upgrade to a paid subscription, do so now as there’s 20% off until Friday 2nd June!)

Over to you
Over the last few weeks we’ve been looking at how authors can promote themselves and their work. Last time we talked about social media, and whether it’s important for authors and writers to be on the various platforms. We discussed how many followers a writer needs in order to get a book deal, and arrived at an answer that I suspect surprised many people. And then finally we looked at other ways to self-promote.
In today’s issue, we’re going to look at a couple more. But first, a word about my new novel/project, The Experiment.
The Experiment
In The Experiment I’m writing and publishing the first draft of a novel (‘draft zero’) - with no polishing and no eyes on this other than mine (and then yours, of course). This is a daunting prospect, as one of the things I firmly believe about draft zero is that one should write it safe in the knowledge that no one will see it at all. Yet here I am, preparing to share it with you all!
The plan is that I’ll be publishing a new chapter every couple of weeks - the chapters will be free for all readers. In addition, I’ll be publishing behind-the-scenes bonus content about my thoughts, writing process and any challenges I’m experiencing - this bonus content will be available for paid subscribers.

I’ve also recently launched Meetings - your chance to have a 1:1 chat with me, about anything you like!
Now, to business. Let’s talk about book bloggers, and book tours…
