Hi everyone!
Take a look at my homepage, or my website. You’ll see links to my Twitter, my Instagram, my Facebook and even my TikTok. So, it’s fairly obvious I’m not going to say ‘No, writers shouldn’t use social media’! But, there’s more to unpack here.
In this issue I’m going to tell you why I use social media, and how I suggest others use it. I’ll talk about whether there are any negatives or downsides and whether it’s vital to be visible on social media if you want to be a writer these days. Finally we’ll go through some dos and don’ts.

1. Why?
I use social media because I enjoy it. I started my Twitter back in 2008, a year before I started writing Before I Go to Sleep, which eventually came out in 2011. So, though I was a writer when I set up my account, I hadn’t been published and was far from certain that I ever would be. I didn’t necessarily think I’d ever have a book to promote, much less a career to sustain. But…
