Being a writer — whether that’s novels or short stories, fiction or non-fiction, published or unpublished — can be a lonely business. We frequently find ourselves facing difficulties that may seem insurmountable, or that we feel that no one else in our immediate circle will ever understand.
So let’s try to solve that problem! I want to make this space somewhere we can all talk to each other about our writing, whether that be a novel we’re working on, or own Substacks, or even poetry or non-fiction. And if you’re a photographer, or painter, or involved in any other creative activity, why not join in too?
Start by telling everyone who you are and what it is you’re working on. Are you looking for some advice, or to hook up with another creative so that you can grow together? Use this space to share problems, brainstorms solutions, and get ideas from one another.
I’ll pop in here when I can, but the idea is that this is for you! So let’s get started. Who are you, and what are your current projects? Introduce yourself in the comments below!
I thought I ought to go first! My name is Steve, I write under the name SJ Watson. I have published three psychological thrillers so far, the first (Before I Go to Sleep) in 2011, and then Second Life and Final Cut, my pandemic book (though it was written before that so it doesn't feature Covid at all, it just came out during it!)
I also write this Substack, as well as do coaching and so on. And when I'm not doing that, I'm working on my next novel, and various other projects that I write about here.
And now, I have to go, for there is a board meeting for the Capital Crime festival, due to take place in Central London at the end of May 2024. Oh, and I also do a podcast with Will Carver - Let's Get Lit. Reading. Writing. Drinking...
Hi everyone- I’m Yvonne. I’m trying to get an agent/publisher for my debut ‘My Blue Crayon’. I’ve got close a couple of times, which is actually worse than hearing nothing. I write women’s contemporary fiction and love exploring women from different generations, especially women over 50 as I find them more interesting. It seems as though the publishing world does not find them that interesting though as I know many writers who can’t get published writing older characters. I’m about to do another round of pitches, but in all honesty I’ve started thinking about self-publishing. I’m currently working on my second book ‘Mrs Mac & Joy’ a road movie in the UK, it’s about two women whose paths cross and ten minutes later they kill a man and go on the run.
