Hi everyone!
This week’s #SJsTwitterBookClub featured author Chris Whittaker (@WhittyAuthor), and we chatted about his brilliant, bestselling, award-winning novel We Begin at the End.
I asked Chris for a spoiler-free tweet-length introduction to the book. “The story follows 13 year old Duchess as she tries to protect her family in the wake of a convicted killer returning to her small California town.”
I wrote Duchess as a form of therapy
Chris then told us how the book began for him. “I was mugged and stabbed,” he told us, “and wrote Duchess as a form of therapy so initially it was a story born of necessity, which sounds a bit odd. I grew to love the characters and was genuinely surprised when I managed to finish writing the book”
We talked about the amazing success of the book and how Chris had found that. “It’s still something I can’t quite come to terms with. I don’t think I ever will. I just try to tell the absolute best story I can at the time. I need to read back through and not want to change a single word before publication.”
He then told us how he came to be a writer.

It was great and lively chat about a wonderful book. If you haven’t read it, then do so now!
Next week, #SJsTwitterBookClub welcomes author S E Lynes, who’ll tell us all about her phenomenal book, The Housewarming . Not to be missed!
Happy reading!
