Hi everyone!
This week’s #SJsTwitterBookClub featured author Miranda Dickinson (@wurdsmyth), and we chatted about her brilliant novel The Day We Meet Again.
I asked Miranda to summarise the book for us. “THE DAY WE MEET AGAIN is the story of two people who meet by chance when their trains are delayed at St Pancras Station. It's love at first sight, but both have year-long adventures calling. So they agree to meet in one year by the statue of Sir John Betjeman.”
She told us she loved this particular book of hers because it was the story that refused to go away. “I pitched it to a previous publisher but the timing wasn't right, so Phoebe and Sam at on my laptop waiting. It's the strongest compulsion I've ever felt to make the story happen.” From that we talked about when you know a book is right, and how the right book is fun to write…
Miranda also let us in on her process. “I am always fast writing first drafts. I used to be a pantser but now I'm a 'plotter with wriggle room' - I write a scene by scene breakdown and use this to keep me on track as I write the first draft. And I write at night - my brain wakes up around 10pm!”
So now we know how it’s done! It was a great discussion of a wonderful book - click the tweet above to be taken to the thread. If you haven’t read it, do so now!
Next week on #SJsTwitterBookClub (Thurs 16th September, 7.00pm) we’re discussing WE BEGIN AT THE END with author @WhittyAuthor. Don’t miss it!
