This week’s #SJsTwitterBookClub featured author Elizabeth Buchan (@elizabethbuchan), who came along to talk about her wonderful novel “The Museum of Broken Promises”.
As usual, I asked Elizabeth to give us a spoiler-free, tweet-length introduction to the book. She said, “A young girl finds herself in Communist Prague. What she experiences there - repression, fear and also incredible bravery - marks her for life. Her setting up of Museum of Broken Promises in Paris is a result. The Museum of Broken Promises is where you can leave an object which represents a broken promise - between family, lovers, political or in the work place. Or the promises you don't keep.”
She went on to explain, “For example a young boy brings in his milk tooth. His father had told him that the Tooth Fairy would visit him. But by the time the tooth is out the father has departed the home.”
It’s an enthralling and beautiful book. We had a good discussion, and Elizabeth told us how a book starts for her…
…and she told us how she’d love to write a book longhand…

Another fascinating discussion about a fantastic book. If you haven’t read it yet, do so now!
