Hi everyone!

This week’s #SJsTwitterBookClub featured author @helentrevorrow who came along to talk about her brilliant dystopian novel, New Brighton.
As usual, after forcing Helen to choose which of her novels was her favourite (“Hmmm make me choose between my children why don’t you?”) I asked if she’d give us a spoiler-free, tweet-length introduction to her book. “Robyn is young woman in Brighton,'“ she told us, “and we quickly learn that her life as a waitress, friend / carer to sister and domineering mother are not what she has been led to believe…”
Helen confessed a love for sci-fi and speculative fiction, but I asked her what it was in particular that triggered the book. She told us she “… was inspired to write something that put Brighton and it’s values at the centre of a story. It’s quite unique and free place to be so I was engaging with my new home. That was the trigger.”
It’s a brilliant and unusual book, and we certainly had a fun discussion about it. I also asked Helen about her process.
And as for Helen’s advice to aspiring writers?

Another fascinating discussion about a fantastic book. If you haven’t read it yet, do so now!
