A new development for the members of the Compendia Community
When I started Compendia, I was keen to see it grow into a supportive and nurturing community of readers and writers. I was delighted when that began to happen, and things really moved up a gear when we started our regular online writing groups.
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to say ‘I’m going to do a half-hour now, who’s with me?’
Following the last one of these there was some chat about connecting further, and more often. I like the idea of writing sprints, for example, almost like an ad hoc group writing session. There’s something really great about sitting at your desk, knowing that someone else, perhaps on the other side of the world, is doing the same and you have each other's back. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to say ‘I’m going to do a half-hour now, who’s with me?’
Similarly, a space to talk about books we’ve read or want to recommend would be wonderful too. A real opportunity to grow something, outside the increasingly hellish world of X/Twitter and with a smalishl group of like-minded people.
I started thinking of ways to do that. Initially I thought of starting a WhatsApp group, but there are limits on members there, and obvious privacy issues.
So I looked instead at Discord. It’s pretty new to me, but I’ve set up a space where we can chat about all things books, reading and writing. I’ll be dropping in fairly regularly to see how it’s all going and chat and answer questions, but the idea is that this community is about you, the subscribers.
For the foreseeable future at least, this feature is for paid subscribers only. But at the moment a fully paid membership to Compendia is just 75p per week (if you pay for a year upfront, a little more if you pay monthly). And it’s easy to unsubscribe at any time, if you decide it’s not for you.
So do join us, and take a look around. Here’s the link to the Discord…
Thank you!
