A quick update, and an invitation
A few things worth sharing.
First, the books. Next year is busy in a way I’m still getting used to. There are two novels coming in 2027. One of them is Before I Sleep Forever, which returns to Christine, the narrator of Before I Go to Sleep. I won’t say much yet, except that going back to her after all these years has been stranger and more unsettling than I expected, in the best way. The other is a standalone, and I’ll have more to say about that closer to the time.
You can pre-order Before I Sleep Forever here…
Then there’s the play. Before I Go to Sleep is going on stage. A UK and Ireland tour runs from January to June 2027, with Giovanna Fletcher in the lead. Seeing a story I wrote at a kitchen table get handed over to actors, a director, a set, an audience in the dark, is a peculiar feeling. I’ll write more about that process as it unfolds, because there’s a lot to say about what happens to a book when other people start making it theirs.
More information, including dates and tickets, here.
Which brings me to the invitation.
These free posts will keep coming, and they’ll keep being the newsletter: where I am, what’s out, what’s next. But I’ve started doing something different for paid subscribers, and I think of it as the room behind the curtain. Process, cut scenes, the editorial decisions I usually keep to myself. Essays I won’t publish anywhere else, and unpublished work, the pieces that didn’t find a home or aren’t ready to. The honest version of how the books actually get made, including the bits that don’t survive.
If that’s of interest, you can upgrade below. Founding members get an acknowledgements credit in the next novel and a signed first edition when it lands.
Either way, I’m glad you’re here.
